The name’s plainness (literally, the boundary line of 3e Rang) is a stark contrast to the unusual nature of the activity that took place there. Word of mouth alone was enough to attract a myriad of people. “They would close off the trécarré from one end to the other”1 to hold horse (joyaux) races. Before that, they would race the horses with “ice shoes” right on the Baie-des-Chaleurs, “which froze in winter all the way to the two points [Paspébiac Point and Port-Daniel Point].”
